Frequently Asked Questions
What are the costs of Karen Brown Coaching’s services?

What is the difference between coaching and tutoring? Does Karen tutor in specific subjects?
Coaching helps students gain specific skills and problem-solving abilities to tackle any subject or academic challenge. Tutoring generally focuses on one subject area, while Karen’s coaching aims to benefit the student’s overall success and well-being. Sometimes, we can use subject-specific examples to practice skills; however, Karen helps students learn how to think and process rather than teaching specific content.
My student is already overwhelmed. Why does it make sense to add something else to their plate?
With all of my offerings, I aim to gain student buy-in by showing them that the small investment of working on executive functioning quickly makes them more efficient, independent, and successful. Part of the process is determining what motivates students to practice these skills. (More free time? Adults giving them more autonomy? Better grades? Etc.)
Shouldn’t my child be learning these skills at school?
Schools are teaching these skills in a general way, but I help differentiate instruction to meet individual needs. For example, a school may suggest using a planner, but I help the student figure out a precise system for keeping track of work that will work best for them. Also, much of the hard work and practice of executive functioning occurs outside of school (homework, extracurriculars, etc.), and I can support your family in scaffolding and supporting these skills at home.
